TIGER-CATS ADD EIGHT INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS TO ROSTER

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Saturday that the club has signed eight international free agents, including defensive end Antonio Coleman, defensive back Trey Wolfe, linebackers Will Smith and D.J. Hunter, running backs Da’Rel Scott and Ross Scheuerman, wide receiver Patrick Robertson, and placekicker Cody Mandell.

Coleman, 29, was with the Tiger-Cats in 2015 but did not play due to injury. The 6-1, 254-pound native of Mobile, Alabama, has appeared in five-career CFL games at defensive end with the Edmonton Eskimos (2013) and Tiger-Cats (2014), collecting 11 defensive tackles, three quarterback sacks and one pass knock down. Prior to joining the CFL, the product of Auburn University played 11 NFL games at linebacker with the Buffalo Bills and posted 16 tackles.

Wolfe, 27, attended training camp with the Washington Redskins in 2015 and played in three preseason games. He spent the 2014 season on the Redskins practice squad after a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks. The 5-11, 193-pound native of Marietta, Georgia, played at Fort Valley State in 2013 and earned second-team Division II All-American honours after recording eight interceptions.

Smith, 24, attended training camp with the Dallas Cowboys last season after spending the 2014 season on their practice roster. He was selected by the Cowboys in the seventh round, 238th overall, in the 2014 NFL Draft. The 6-2, 231-pound native of Riverside, California, played 26 games at Texas Tech over two seasons (2012-13), posting 175 career tackles.

Hunter, 25, played 13 games with Marshall University during his senior year in 2015, recording a career-high three forced fumbles. The 6-0, 211-pound native of Middletown, Ohio, finished his career at Marshall with 297 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 53 games.

Scott, 28, played four games in 2015 for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, posting 52 rushing yards on 13 carries, and had four receptions for 33 yards. The 5-11, 210-pound product of Maryland was a seventh-round pick (221st overall) of the New York Giants in 2011 and played in 20 NFL games over three seasons (2011-13), recording 31 carries for 98 yards, and 13 receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Scheuerman, 23, spent time in the NFL last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles. The 6-0, 222-pound native of Cream Ridge, New Jersey, played four seasons at Lafayette (2011-14), ending his collegiate career with 3,504 rushing yards and 31 rushing touchdowns, and 129 receptions for 1,129 yards and eight receiving touchdowns.

Robertson, 26, spent time with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2015 after playing two games with the team in 2014, registering six kick returns for 174 yards and 11 punt returns for 95 yards. The 6-2, 200-pound native of Carrollton, Texas, played 41 games over three seasons at Murray State (2008-09, 2011), accumulating 96 catches for 786 yards and seven touchdowns.

Mandell, 24, attended training camp with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in 2014 and the Green Bay Packers last season. The 6-4, 215-pound native of Lafayette, Louisiana, appeared in 52 games for the University of Alabama from 2010 to 2014, serving primarily as a punter, and averaged 42.6 yards per punt while landing 58 punts inside the 20-yard line.

The Tiger-Cats also announced some additional transactions on Saturday.
