The Canadian Football League announced Tuesday that Hamilton Tiger-Cats wide receiver Brandon Banks has been named one of the CFL Top Performers for Week 9.
Banks, 31, caught the game-winning touchdown with 1:09 remaining in the fourth quarter in Hamilton’s 35-34 home win Saturday over the BC Lions at Tim Hortons Field. Overall, he posted nine receptions for 137 yards with two receiving touchdowns and a two-point conversion reception. The 5-7, 150-pound native of Garner, North Carolina currently leads the CFL in targets (72), receptions (51), receiving yards (691), receiving yards per game (98.7) and total touchdowns with eight (five receiving, one rushing, two missed field goal returns), and is sixth in combined yards (1,002).
Winnipeg’s Janarion Grant and Edmonton’s C.J. Gable, first and third in voting, respectively, join Banks as this week’s CFL Top Performers. The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
