Tiger-Cats Add All-Star RB Avon Cobourne


Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed all-star running back Avon Cobourne.

Cobourne, a 5-8, 205-pound native of Camden, New Jersey, has spent the last five seasons with the Montreal Alouettes.  In 71 regular season games, Cobourne ran for 3,301 yards and 27 touchdowns, boasting a 5.6 yards per carry average.  The versatile threat also caught 194 passes for 1,714 receiving yards and five touchdowns.  He was named an East Division All-Star in 2008 and 2009 and a CFL All-Star in 2009. 

Cobourne joins the Ticats after capturing back-to-back Grey Cup championships with Montreal

“Avon is a proven, hardnosed, all-around running back that will add a dimension of toughness to our offence,” said General Manager Bob O’Billovich.  “He was a big part of Montreal’s championship teams, and we look forward to him bringing that winning attitude into our locker room.”

Cobourne joins the Ticats after capturing back-to-back Grey Cup championships with the Alouettes.  He was named Grey Cup MVP in 2009 after recording 85 rushing yards, 64 receiving yards and two touchdowns in Montreal’s victory over Saskatchewan. 

Cobourne has also suited up with the NFL’s Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.  Before turning pro, Cobourne played at West Virginia, where he finished his collegiate career as the Big East’s all-time leading rusher with 5,164 yards.
