The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Wednesday the football club has added national running back/receiver Anthony Coombs to the team’s practice roster.
Coombs, 26, played two games for the Toronto Argonauts in 2018, recording six receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown with two carries for two rushing yards. The 5-9, 199-pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba played 53 career games over five seasons (2014-18) with the Argos, registering 170 receptions for 1,539 yards and four receiving touchdowns, while adding 38 carries for 194 yards and one rushing touchdown. Coombs, who was originally selected by Toronto in the first-round, third overall, in the 2014 CFL Draft, was a Grey Cup champion with the Argonauts in 2017.
Prior to turning pro, Coombs spent four years (2011-14) at the University of Manitoba, accumulating 2,232 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns while adding 51 receptions for 840 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns. He finished his collegiate career ranked seventh all-time in CIS (now U SPORTS) combined touchdowns and set the Canada West record with a 107-yard touchdown run. Coombs was a three-time Canada West All-Star, two-time CIS First Team All-Canadian (2011, 2013) and was named the Bisons’ 2014 Athlete of the Year.
