The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Monday the football club has signed two American players, including wide receiver Steven Dunbar Jr. (pictured) and linebacker Jeff Allison.
Dunbar Jr., 24, signed as an undrafted free agent with the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers in 2018, spent time on the team’s practice roster and appeared in one game. Most recently, he attended training camp with the Denver Broncos in 2019. Prior to turning pro, the 6-3, 202-pound native of Metairie, Louisiana played in 51 games over four seasons (2014-17) at the University of Houston, registering 180 receptions for 2,430 yards and 11 touchdowns, and earned All-American Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honours as a senior.
Allison, 22, signed as an undrafted free agent and spent time with the NFL’s New York Jets in 2019. The 6-0, 235-pound native of Miami, Florida played in 40 games over three seasons (2016-18) at Fresno State, collecting 279 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 quarterback sacks, and was named first team All-Mountain West in his final two seasons. He also earned Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2018 and finished 10th in school history in career tackles.
