TIGER-CATS SIGN SIX AMERICANS, INCLUDING DEFENSIVE END CRUMP

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Wednesday the football club has signed six American players, including defensive end Koron Crump (pictured), defensive back Ronald Zamort, wide receivers Damoun Patterson and Jamire Jordan, running back Jordan Ellis, and placekicker/punter Matthew White.

Crump, 25, appeared in one game and had one special teams tackle with the Tiger-Cats in 2019 after spending most of the season on the team’s practice roster. Crump joined the Ticats after a brief stint with the National Football League’s Green Bay Packers last season. The 6-3, 215-pound native of St. Louis, Missouri made 21 appearances over three seasons (2016-18) at Arizona State University, registering 56 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception which he returned for a 59-yard touchdown. He earned a Pac-12 Second Team nomination in 2016 after recording nine sacks in 12 games.

Zamort, 28, spent time in the NFL over the last four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals (2016-17) and New York Giants (2018-19). He also had a brief stint with the Toronto Argonauts in October 2018. The 5-10, 184-pound native of Delray Beach, Florida played 49 games at cornerback over four years at Western Michigan University (2012-15), registering 150 total tackles, six interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble, and his 51 passes defended rank him second all-time in NCAA history and first all-time in the MAC. Zamort was named second-team All-MAC in 2015 as a senior and third-team in 2014 as a junior.

Patterson, 25, spent time with the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers (2018), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2018) and New England Patriots (2018-19) over the last two seasons. The 6-2, 190-pound native of Apopka, Florida played in 26 games over two seasons at Youngstown State University (2016-17), posting 52 receptions for 1,039 yards and six touchdowns. He also registered three rushing attempts for 36 yards.

Jordan, 24, spent time with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs in 2019. The 5-11, 170-pound native of Lancaster, California played 52 games over four seasons at Fresno State (2015-18), hauling in 145 receptions for 2,249 yards and 13 touchdowns, while adding 28 carries for 131 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also returned 40 kickoffs for 954 yards, totaling 3,334 all-purpose yards in his career with the Bulldogs, and was named to the Fall Academic All-Mountain West team in 2018.

Ellis, 23, attended training camp and served time on the practice roster of the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals in 2019. The 5-10, 225-pound native of Suwanee, Georgia played 46 games over four seasons at the University of Virginia (2015-18), collecting 1,997 rushing yards on 468 carries with 19 touchdowns, and adding 29 receptions for 206 yards and a receiving touchdown. He was also an All-ACC honourable mention in 2018 and played in the 2019 East-West Shrine Game.

White, 24, appeared in 36 games over four seasons at Monmouth University (2014-17), serving as placekicker, punter and kickoff specialist. The 6-1, 200-pound native of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania converted 19-of-29 career field goal attempts (65.5%) and 67-of-73 single convert attempts (91.8%), while averaging 39.6 yards per punt on 151 attempts for the Hawks.
