The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Thursday the football club has signed three American players including running back Trey Ragas, defensive back Lummie Young IV and placekicker Peyton Henry.
Ragas, 26, most recently spent time on the practice squad of the National Football League’s Los Angeles Rams (2022). The 5-10, 214-pound native of New Orleans, Louisiana originally signed with the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders and suited up in one game in his rookie season with the club (2021-22), registering one carry for nine yards and two receptions for six yards. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette product played 49 games over four seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns (2017-20), registering 596 carries for 3,572 yards and 38 touchdowns with 49 receptions for 427 yards and five touchdowns. Ragas earned Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference honours in 2020 and was earned third team recognition on three occasions (2017-19).
Young IV, 23, most recently played 13 games in his lone season at Tulane University (2022), registering 47 total tackles, .5 tackles for loss, one interception and three passes defensed. The 6-1, 200-pound native of Anderson, South Carolina began his collegiate career at Duke University where played 34 games over four seasons (2018-21), totalling 144 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles, two interceptions and 10 passes defensed.
Henry, 24, suited up in 56 games over five seasons at Washington University (2018-22), completing 71 of 88 field goal attempts (80.68%) with a career long of 50 yards. The 5-11, 197-pound native of Danville, California earned Second Team All-Pac 12 honours twice (2019, ’22) and was a semi-finalist for the Lou Garza Award (2019).\
