The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Thursday that the football club has signed international free agent defensive back Emanuel Davis.
Davis, 26, was named a CFL All-Star in 2015 after leading the league with three interception return touchdowns (no other player had more than one) and 12 pass knock downs, and was tied for fourth overall with five interceptions. The native of Manteo, North Carolina also registered 61 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 18 games with the Tiger-Cats. He added three defensive tackles and an interception in two playoff games.
The 5-11, 182-pound defensive back was named the Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 7 last season after returning two interceptions for touchdowns against Winnipeg. Davis became the first-ever Tiger-Cat, and first player in the CFL since Byron Parker in September 2004, to return two interceptions for touchdowns in the same game.
Davis, who attended training camp with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns in 2012, has appeared in 38 career CFL games with Hamilton since 2013, posting career stats of 123 defensive tackles, 22 special teams tackles, 21 pass knock downs, one sack, five interceptions and four forced fumbles. The East Carolina University product has also played in five career CFL playoff games with the Tiger-Cats, including the 101st Grey Cup versus Saskatchewan in 2012.
